To restore the Ellis Island buildings and the Statue of Liberty, special commemorative Half Dollars, Silver Dollars, and $5 Gold pieces were struck to help with the fundraising.  Work on the Statue of Liberty was completed in 1986; Ellis Island re-opened in 1990
